Unfortunately it is not enough to have your preferences set to "allow calls from my contacts only" - I've always had those settings but continue to be skammed & to receive messages from people I don't know. I know others have the same issue so can only assume that Skype security isn't up to scratch... May 20, 2012
- If you'll pardon the cynicism, it sounds to me like these security professionals are a little jealous that a company whose main focus is not on security itself. If these allegations are true, then sure, Microsoft needs to get on the level with their practices. But if they're taking down botnets, I don't care if they do it Dirty Harry-style. - What makes spam even more crippling is that once the botnet is in place and the messages are being distributed, the process doesn't so much cycle as it does continue in a linear direction. Having zombie computers in their employ, a spammer can sit back and watch the results, acting only in ways to keep their scam fresh and viable. May 17, 2012
- Of course it stands to reason that if the email address is compromised, then attempts to install malware can be pushed later, with an added layer of social engineering by including personal details from emails in the inbox in future attempts to take more data or scam the user. May 16, 2012
